Numero 3 in our list of places we visited over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend - Sutton Hoo, a place a lot more of you will probably have heard of now thanks to that little old movie, ‘The Dig’.

Some of you will remember me posting about Sutton Hoo just last year. It’s another of those local places I’m fond of because of family memories as a child. Sutton Hoo has come a long way since then. Now owned by the National Trust it has been greatly boosted and expanded and now offers so much for families to explore.

Nowadays, I find we often head to Sutton Hoo on weekdays as it’s one of those places that’s perfect to burn off some energy for a couple of hours. It’s also the ideal place to meet up with family and friends. Every visit is different. There are various riverside, woodland, and forest walks here, plus historic trails to follow like those around the famous burial mounds. You’ll find an educational room full of information about King Raedwald of East Anglia with the chance to dress up in Anglo Saxon gear. Personally, I love learning about history so can happily browse these kinds of places for some time if Leo’s occupied enough to let me! As he gets older, there are more and more activities he’ll be able to take part in too.

If you’ve got little ones with you I’m sure they’ll relish the outdoor play area. You’ll also find a gorgeous cafe and gift shop, plus the historic Tranmer house once home to Edith and Frank Pretty, which is often open to look around.

There are often events on here and over the Easter weekend there were reenactments and an Easter egg trail, so it’s always worth checking to see what’s on if you go.

Electric mobility scooters are available to use and also for those carrying babies or toddlers without a carrier there are special hip carriers you can ask about - I only discovered these because I once turned up for a walk and forgot the baby carrier.
