Our Living Room Treehouse Stay

So honestly, this trip didn’t go as hoped. Initially we’d planned our first baby-free break away. Then when childcare plans fell through we decided to take Leo with us. Next, Mr J gets a stomach bug a few days before, then Leo’s sick too but only the once and seems totally chipper in himself so after some deliberation we still decide to go.

And we’re glad we did. The @treehousewales treehouses are breathtaking. Each one blends with the surroundings, out of sight, in it’s own secluded haven. There’s no electricity, I didn’t even have phone signal, making it the perfect place to literally switch off. Chopping wood to heat the fire and hot tub, listening to the creaking branches and rain on the window, enjoying total darkness after sundown, these simple pleasures shine exactly as they should in this special place.

I grew up visiting North Wales almost every year with my family so Wales is a real home from home - and one I can’t wait to show Leo in future - but this was our first time staying in mid-Wales, Machynlleth to be exact. While we didn’t get to explore the area there’s lots to do here and it’s a great base if you fancy climbing Cadair Idris, the highest mountain in southern Snowdonia.

The downside? Despite Leo being happy as Larry, his nappies were a different story. Let’s just say we went from vombomb to s**t-cannon, probably due to lack of solids 😅 We realised we couldn’t enjoy the trip to the fullest and made the decision to head home slightly early. I’ve also got something now, feeling burnt out to say the least.

Despite this, we still made some wonderful memories:

🪵 Chopping wood
🔥 Lighting the wood burners
🃏 Playing games
👀 Playing hide and seek in the trees
🪨 Paddling & skimming stones by the river
🐦 Watching the wildlife
☕️ Drinking hot cacao after coming in from the rain
🌳 Playing with the tree swing and hammock
🐑 Saying hi to the sheep and lambs

I’m a little sad we weren’t up to the local hikes and didn’t get to try the outdoor shower which looked amazing. But all the more reason to return!

Happy Mother’s Day weekend, if you’re celebrating. Hope yours is bug-free.
